What is a dome master?
It's an original image projected on a hemispherical dome screen by fulldome video projection systems like
Digistar 3
(Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation),
DigitalSky
(Sky-Skan,Inc.),
MediaGlobe
(Konica Minolta Planetarium Co,Ltd.),
and ElectricSky II
(Spitz,Inc.).
Technically, it's a circular image created in the azimuthal (or zenithal) equidistant projection.
The azimuthal equidistant projection is widely used by many fisheye lenses.
(There are four standard fisyeye projections--the equidistant, equisolid angle, orthographic,
and stereographic projection.)
So, the dome master is equivalent to the circular equidistant fisheye image.
AZIMUTHAL EQUIDISTANT PROJECTION
It's generally an square image as below.
In this image, the view point is inside (at the center of) the dome.
Sometimes, up and down, or right and left might be flipped.

The size of a dome master ranges from 1024x1024 to some 4000x4000.
The 24-bit Truevision Targa (TGA) file format is widely used,
but other formats may be used.
If you create a sequence of still images based on the principle of animation, you can make a fulldome movie.
The standard frame rate is 30 fps (frames per second) or 29.97 fps, but other frame rates are possible.
